Compass Update July 18, 2013

Release Date: Friday, Jul 19, 2013

Change to be implemented for off-campus Compass access

In order to improve security, Compass users who are not on campus in College Station, Galveston or Qatar will soon need to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access the system.  Instructions on downloading and installing a VPN can be found on the CIS Help Desk Central VPN page.

This change is tentatively scheduled to be implemented in August.  If there are concerns or feedback regarding this process, please send an email with this information to pschaub@tamu.edu.

Compass Reporting classes offered

EIS will be conducting several classes in the fall which will allow users to create reports from some Compass Admissions and Records data using the ARGOS reporting tool.

Refresher Report Training – September 9, 2013, (8:30am – 11:30am – Session I or 1:30pm – 4:30pm – Session II) or September 13, 2013, (8:30am – 11:30am – Session III):  This training is designed to refresh an existing Argos user with the Argos Reporting tool and data.  This class will get you back up to speed on creating datablocks and reports for most of your reporting needs.  Class size is limited to 18 and has a prerequisite of Beginner Report Training.

Beginner Report Training – September 16 or September 30, 2013, (8:30am – 4:30pm):  This training is designed for the person with little or no technical background in SQL Programming.   We will move at a slower pace and attempt to explain concepts in more detail to help the class better understand the Argos Reporting tool and data.  By the end of the training session, the user will be able to create datablocks and reports that will be the building blocks for most reporting needs. Class size is limited to 18.

Advanced-Beginner Report Training – September 23, 2013, (8:30am – 4:30pm):  This training is designed for the person with moderate to extensive experience with SQL Programming and a strong technical background.  The class will move at a quicker pace than the Beginner Report Training class and go into advance datablock creation and report generation.  You will learn to use the programming features of Argos to create advance reporting solutions.  Course material will be the same covered in the Beginner Report Training Class.  Class size is limited to 18.

Advanced Report Training – October 7, 2013, (8:30am – 11:30pm):  This training is designed for the person with moderate to extensive experience with the Argos Reporting tool and data.  This class will move at a quick pace and go into advance datablock and report solutions such as OLAP Cubes, Banded Reports, Sub-Queries and Argos Charts.  Class size is limited to 18 and has a prerequisite of Beginner Report Training.

The attached brochure provides additional information regarding the ARGOS reporting tool.   If you are interested in attending, please send an email by August 30 to eis-security@tamu.edu.
