Acquiring a Compass Account and Attending Training
The following sections are available regarding Compass Accounts:
Acquire an Account
To obtain a Compass Account, the following steps must be taken:
1) Complete the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) training: All Texas A&M employees must complete this training which can be found online at https://sso.tamus.edu . Once you sign on to SSO, select HR Connect, Training and then the Alphabetical Master Course List.
2) Request a Compass Account: Once the FERPA course is completed, submit the Compass Account Request Form completed by your Primary Authorizing Agent (PAA), to the EIS Security and Training Team. This request form is available in the Compass User Training Channel on the Employee tab in the Howdy Portal at http://howdy.tamu.edu. The PAA will request the correct forms to which you will have access based on your job duties. When EIS receives the form, the TrainTraq database will be accessed to confirm the user has completed the FERPA training. If it has been completed, EIS will send you an email containing the web site address where you may log on and sign up for an Introductory Compass Navigation class. If the training has not been completed, EIS will send you an email and copy your PAA, telling you the FERPA training must be completed in order to enroll in an Introductory Compass Navigation class. The FERPA training documentation will still be required to be attached to the Compass Account Request Form for any potential account holder who cannot access HR Connect.
3) Attend Introductory Compass Navigation: Once you schedule and attend a Compass Introductory Navigation Class, you will receive your Compass account.
4) Attend specific functional training: Introductory Compass training will primarily be conducted in classroom settings, with additional training courses offered on specific functions. Most of these courses also will be conducted in classroom settings; however some will be offered online. Throughout training, supplemental learning guides will be made available.
