About Compass

Compass is the new student information system being launched at Texas A&M University. The new system, purchased from SunGard Higher Education, is web-based, and will include the university's three campuses in College Station, Galveston and Qatar.

The transition from the current Student Information Management System (SIMS) to Compass is taking place in stages, with the full transition scheduled for completion in Fall 2009.

The Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) department and project team are responsible for the implementation and maintenance of Compass as well as SIMS throughout the transition. The project also includes implementation of the SunGard Operational Data Store (ODS) and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to improve reporting capabilities. The project also includes implementation of a web portal, launched as Howdy at https://howdy.tamu.edu.

Compass end-users will access the system through the Howdy web portal.
