About EIS

The Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) department and project team are responsible for the implementation and maintenance of new mission-critical, enterprise-wide information systems at Texas A&M University. The team is currently implementing a new student information system for the university's three campuses in College Station, Galveston, and Qatar. The new system is called Compass, and it includes a financial aid component. The university purchased the system, a software product called Banner, from SunGard Higher Education. Throughout the transition to Compass, EIS is also responsible for maintaining the university's current Student Information Management System (SIMS). Compass is being launched in stages, with the full transition scheduled to be complete in Fall 2009.

To improve reporting capabilities, the EIS project team is also responsible for implementing and maintaining the SunGard Higher Education Operational Data Store (ODS). Additionally, the project team is responsible for implementing and maintaining a web portal that will serve as the "front door" for Compass end-users. The portal, also a SunGard product, was launched in March 2008 as Howdy at https://howdy.tamu.edu. Howdy currently allows Texas A&M University students, applicants, faculty, and staff to use a single sign-on to access web-based campus services.

The EIS department reports to the Vice President and Associate Provost for Information Technology at Texas A&M University.
